TLDR

Type what you do, the AI runs the story, and the game remembers what happened. Actually references locations and maps, rarely if ever "Hallucinates", also actually is grounded in inventories, and characters feeling less "AI" and more like a DnD session. More stuff is coming (combat, health, better UI, more features).

Venice Chronicles

Venice Chronicles is a solo RPG where an AI plays Dungeon Master. You play by typing what you do. The game answers with what happens next.

This is mainly for people who want the “RPG story” experience without a group. No schedule, no waiting, no table setup. Just click Run and play.

The big thing I’m trying to do here is make choices actually stick. If you steal something, make enemies, learn info, or change a place, it should stay that way instead of getting forgotten five minutes later.

This is an early version, but it works.

What’s in the prototype right now

  • A chat box where you type actions and talk to characters

  • Inventory tracking

  • Money tracking (gold / silver / copper)

  • A map that opens up as you move around (with fog-of-war)

  • A memory log for important people, places, and notes

There are no dice rolls on your end. You don’t have to do math. You just play and the game keeps track of the basics.

The UI is simple. It’s clean enough to use. It also looks like a prototype because I built it like a prototype. I promise it’s not a “final UI choice,” it’s more like a “this works, please don’t judge me” UI choice.

The default world (if you don’t change anything)

The starting setting is Veridia, a steampunk-fantasy city in 1888.

It’s got factories, rich areas, shady areas, magic, machines, and a lot of people with bad ideas. Arcane crystals power the lights, automatons do work, and the city has that constant feeling like something is about to go wrong.

It's EXTREMELY basic, so I'd recommend adding your own flair (or asking ChatGPT or something to write one for you.)

You can customize it (no code)

You can change things from the settings screen:

  • Pick your AI provider and paste your API key
Supports Venice AI, OpenAI, Mistral, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude
(Venice AI with zai-org-glm-4.7 usually behaves the best with the game’s tracking tools)

  • Change the world / genre
You can swap Veridia for anything. Classic Venice canals, sci-fi station, dark fantasy, cyberpunk, whatever.

  • Change the “rules” style
Make it stricter, more realistic, or just different. The default rules are meant to keep things fair and consistent (no random free items, no nonsense shortcuts).

Your API key stays saved locally in your browser. It doesn’t get sent to me. The only online part is the AI responses.

Stuff I’m planning to add later

This is the early build. I’m still building the bigger systems.

Planned updates include:

Health system

  • Real health, damage, healing

  • Clearer feedback when you get hurt

Combat system

  • A proper combat setup

  • More consistent fights

  • More options during combat

More features

  • Better tracking and fewer weird edge cases

  • More actions like crafting, stealth, and other gameplay systems

  • More world presets you can pick from

UI upgrades

  • Better layout and readability

  • Better mobile support

  • A full cleanup so it looks less like “dev tool mode” and more like an actual game.

Making this more "Free"

  • Having a free or almost free API, that is run by the user, or by me.
  • Finding a free API that I can put as the default for the average user.

If something breaks

It’s a prototype, so you might hit bugs or strange behavior sometimes. If you do, leave a comment with what happened (and what AI provider/model you used). That helps a lot.

Thanks for trying it out. If you end up with a funny or wild story, I’d honestly like to hear it.
